Letter from the Publisher

Finishing another issue always makes me reflect on time and growth. So much has happened at Where to Eat this year, and in my personal life I observe wonderful changes in our baby girl every day. Through her almost one year old, curious eyes, everything becomes new to me as well, from the soft touch of a cashmere sweater, to the sight of trees in every shade of red and gold, to, coming even closer to my heart, her delight in new flavors like sweet carrots, maple-glazed chicken, creamy mashed potatoes…

And the seasons change with us. It seems that one day I’m enjoying a café lunch of grilled calamari and a chilled Prosecco, and the next I’m cuddling up in a candlelit banquette debating over slow roasted duck confit and hand cut tagliatelle with wild mushrooms. Cooler weather brings so many culinary pleasures to the table, and the restaurants and caterers have outdone themselves with their seasonal menus. Old standbys continue to impress and reinvent themselves, and newcomers bring fresh flavors to every corner of the city and neighborhoods beyond.

And we bring you some fresh flavors of our own! Our first-ever Destinations chapter highlights some of New England’s most picturesque towns and the celebrated restaurants within them. We are also thrilled to introduce the premier issue of Where to Drink! After extensive “research” on some of Boston’s greatest cocktailing havens, we have found, for you, the best in sophisticated lounges, casual neighborhood joints and intimate restaurant bars. Nevermind that we’ve included a recipe on every page so that you can re-create your favorite bar chef masterpieces at home. So hit the books and rejoice in the season by dining out often, and well. (And grab a drink while you’re at it!)

Bon Appétit!
